our first (three) geocaching adventure(s).

We went looking for treasures today!

Mark learned about geocaching in one of his classes this past fall. I don't know a whole lot about it other than it is basically like a world-wide treasure hunt! People anywhere in the world who join (for free) the geocach website can hide a little treasure box somewhere and list it on the geocach website and then anyone who wants to can go look for it!

It's a great way to do something fun together outside as a family! It takes you places that you'd never go unless you went hunting for a geocach.

We bought a GPS for Christmas for our family in hopes that we would enjoy geocaching together...we hadn't had a chance to do any as a family until now....

and we had lots and lots of fun!!
Looking for our first geocach ever...
We got to look by the river...Isaiah was so intrigued by the water flowing, it made me so nervous...he wanted to get so close...I wouldn't let him look without me holding on to him.We loved it so much, we decided to go hunting again the next day - Mother's Day. After breakfast in bed (buttered toast with shredded cheese on top-Isaiah's idea) and church, off we went treasure hunting and for a picnic.

Found it!We found two treasures before it was time to head home for naps. (yes, everyone one of us took a nap!!)

When we got up, we couldn't waste the beautiful weather...so we decided to walk to the park with our GPS (and grandma) and we played for awhile and then went walking some more and found 3 more treasures!!

If you are looking for a fun family activity that requires lots of searching, walking, and outside time, I'd encourage you to consider geocaching!

Isaiah's quote of the day, "Please help me get that bird out of that tree." (today as I'm writing this 5/12/09)

ooo, fun! we had heard a little about geocaching a couple years ago, and I thought it sounded like so much fun! I thought you had to have an off-road vehicle to get to places, so I'm glad to hear you don't. Maybe we'll look into a GPS. Now that it's a not a new technology anymore maybe they won't be so expensive. It does sound like a lot of fun and great for kids too!
